Sorry, I was not clear enough.  You offered no offense - it is the trend of companies assuming I want and have an internet connection for every computing device and that I should be required to use an internet connection to use a product I buy from them that I find insulting.  Online updates and all are nice, but they should not be required.

I suppose people can get used to anything.  Still, I suspect this will be a bit of a stretch, after being used to records/tapes/CDs that could be taken anywhere and played on a friend's player, or on successive players or players in various rooms, vehicles, or of the portable variety.  Taking a step forward is enticing and perhaps worthy of spending a little money.  Taking a step backwards is not so attractive.

An interesting proposition.  Quite possible, especially if copyright were severely limited or eliminated altogether.  However, reasonable steps like restoring copyright to a 14 year term - I don't think would make much difference.  Keep in mind that DRM seldom works well anyway, and does absolutely nothing to stop well-funded counterfeiters.
