I'll take issue with both you and Alan for not agreeing with me when I
predicted the earliest time table for full paper replacement: when
today's kids are old enough to want to start buying books.
BUT - I live with a bunch of readers (I'm not a reader) and they all
speak of "cuddling up to a good book" in the same vein I speak of
letting off steam at the firing range. That's a feeling not easily
reproduced in electronic form, and I've played every first person
shooter worth playing!
Again, print on demand for those of us who will always prefer paper -
not to mention full shelves. Seriously, what are you going to put on
your book shelf?!
A couple of points so far as paper in the office: my company spend a
LOT of money on paper - and a lot of that paper is used to print email
and email attachments. A lot of those attachments started off as paper
which was scanned into an all-in-one machine and emailed to the
recipient (or faxed to our fax server which emailed it to the
recipient). We also spend a lot of money printing documents off to be
signed and then scanned back to someone.
Once a day I'll be at the printer signing a document I just received
in email, scanning it back to the recipient or myself to be sent
off-site and then dumping the printed piece of paper into the shred
box.
