You just volunteered, I suppose.

In this email I will provide with basic guidelines for the debate. Take
note.

The teams will be announced later. If you'd like to volunteer at this
point, you still can.

Roles by teams
--------------
First government introduces the debate and the proposition they would
like to pass, and arguments to support it.

First Opposition shows an alternative solution if one exists, and
arguments on why it's a bad idea.

Second Government introduces a new line of thinking, of why the
proposition is good or shows an expansion on what the first government said.

Second opposition responds, and summarizes the debate.

Roles by positions two first positions
--------------------------------------

Speaker slots:
1st gov, 1st speaker
1st opp, 1st speaker

1st gov, 2nd speaker
1st opp, 2nd speaker

2nd gov, 1st speaker
2nd opp, 1st speaker

2nd gov, 2nd speaker
2nd opp, 2nd speaker

- First government, first speaker:
1. Take the motion and define it.

Example:
If the motion is:
	"this house will ban prostitution"
They can leave it as-is, or define it as something like
"thwb prostitution among children under the age of 18".

2. Show a mechanism of how their proposition will happen.

3. Bring positive material (at least one argument to support the
proposition).

- First opposition, first speaker:
Rebut the claims made by the first gov.
Show an alternative to the proposition, or demonstrate why the gov's
proposition is bad.
Bring positive material (2-3 arguments to oppose the proposition).

Other teams:
You need to rebut claims made by the speaker before you. Don't spend too
much time on this as positive material (arguments to support your side)
is more interesting, but do make sure you cover the other side's main
points in as short a fashion as you can to move to your material as soon
as you can.

Last two speakers (2nd gov 2d speaker and 2nd opp 2nd speaker).
-----------------
Last government speaker (3/2) can introduce one new argument, but mainly
needs to summarize the debate for the government side. You can do so by
the main themes of the discussion, which is preferable.

Last opposition speaker (4/2) can introduce no new material and needs to
summarize for the opposition side.

Both speakers can do rebuttal.

Limitations
-----------
Each speaker has one day to send in a response email, but it would be
appreciated if you can speed it up. No one except that speaker is
allowed to send in an email.

Each speaker is allowed one email message during the debate. It's a team
sport, so work with your partner. Do not discuss between teams.

You need to show logical progression in your thinking in each argument,
to demonstrate why it is reasonable.

You may explore no more than 4 arguments, while 3 are recommended.

Quoting text from the team before you is discouraged, as it reminds me
(the adjudicator) of the other side's points.

You may not pass 30 lines of text.

Extra points will be given for good, readable, format.

	Gadi.
